Creating NH Wines
What is NH wine? Most would say, very simply, it is a wine made in NH. At Flag Hill we believe that a true NH wine reflects and embraces the interesting and exciting differences and tastes of local grapes and products – meaning that a NH red or white wine starts with NH grapes. We could easily purchase Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet or Reisling from New York or California and make the wine here, but why produce a NH wine from warm weather grapes when any consumer can just as easily buy a Cabernet made in Napa, or a Riesling made in the Fingerlakes in any grocery or wine store in NH or around the country? While most know the core dozen that are on every restaurant wine list, we invite you to learn more about some of the other hundreds of wine grapes that are being used world-wide today, in particular those of the cold weather regions.
Our philosophy at Flag Hill is to produce red and white wines that showcase some of the varieties of grapes that can be grown in NH. We invite you to try new and different grapes that you may have never heard of before, wines like De Chaunac, Marechal Foch, Cayuga White or Vignoles. Every grape has its own distinct characteristic and the balance of good weather, intricate proper growth techniques, fermentation and finishing of each batch of juice from our grapes plays a crucial role in our final product to you: a savory bottle of NH wine reflecting the true character of a truly NH product.
